“ Beloved I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth” – Holy Bible 3John 1 vs.2
hree things are clear from this passage quoted from the 3John 1 vs2. Holy Bible, King James Version. First, is that God delights in our individual and collective financial prosperity. He says ‘I wish above all things that thou prosper’. Various meanings of the word ‘wish’ include- aspiration, hope, yearning, longing, craving, fancy, and inclination .The word ‘prosperity’ itself can be interpreted to me wealth, affluence, opulence, riches, and success. It is therefore obvious that poverty, failures, famine, drought, penury, and all other indices of financial lack are neither from God or approved by Him.
Second, this passage clearly shows that God desires our bodily prosperity-that we should be in good health, free from any sicknesses or diseases. We live in a world plagued by various forms of afflictions- Cancer, Tumors, HIV/AIDS, Fevers, and hundred of other sicknesses. It is important you know that it is not the will of God for you to be diseased. The Bible clearly shows in several other passages that God is the healer- “with his stripes we are all healed”- Isaiah 53:5. Satan is the source of most afflictions including diseases .See Matt12: 22; Acts10: 38; Jn10: 10; 1Jn3: 8; Eph2: 1-3 and Luke13: 16.
The third thing that can be deduced from 3John 1 vs.2 quoted above is that God delights not only in our financial or bodily prosperity but also in our Spiritual prosperity. He says ‘I wish….thy soul propereth” . Spiritual prosperity means growing up in faith in Jesus Christ, serving God, doing His will, and developing a strong relationship with your Creator. We are made of a body, a soul and a spirit.
Jesus says the New Testament way of worshipping God is ‘in truth and in the spirit’, therefore your soul- which is the seat of your emotions and thoughts and Spirit must be alive with God, if you are to proper spiritually. How do you prosper spiritual? Always read the Holy Bible to know the mind of God, talk to God in prayers, and serve God with all your heart and strength in a local Church where the true word of God is taught and practiced.
In summary, 3 John 1 vs.2 could be translated to mean: “I desire, more than any other thing that you are successful financially, be in good health, and also grow and develop spiritually’. We must know that the three types of prosperity mentioned in this biblical passage- financial, bodily, and spiritual prosperity are work together and are dependent on one another. You cannot grow in one, if you do not desire to grow in another. You cannot come to God seeking financial prosperity or good health, if you are not interested in seeking your spiritual prosperity.
The foundation of seeking any form of prosperity from God is following Him, doing His will, and refraining from all evil works of Satan. If we look at the verse 11 of the 3 John Chapter One quoted above, we see that God warns: ‘beloved, follow not that is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God’.
And are you into any evil? For a complete list of evils, see Galatians 5 vs. 19: “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings and such like: of which I tell you before, as I have told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God”
Do you desire any form of prosperity? Seek God, and He will give you the ‘triple prosperity’- financial, bodily, and Spiritual prosperity all combined as a package. Through manipulations and deceit, Satan at times gives financial propriety for a while, to those that make covenants with him, but that’s all. Such people lack good health and lack spiritual prosperity as they are doomed to spiritual death in hell. Isn’t it better to go for God’s triple prosperity than Satan’s conditional singular ‘financial prosperity?’ The Bible says: For What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?
Do you want to be reconciled with God, through Jesus the Lord and Saviour? Then say this simple prayer:
ather, in the name of Jesus Christ. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and have fallen short of your glory. I genuinely repent from all my sins and pledge to go and sin no more. I accept your plan to reconcile mankind to you through Jesus Christ, who you sent in your name. I believe Jesus Christ is the Messiah, and died on the Cross to pay the penalty for my sins and redeem me. I accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. I pray that His blood washes my sins away. I invite the Holy Spirit to rule my Life. I am born again in Jesus name.
I believe O Lord that wealth and honour comes from you. I know you are delighted in my prosperity, and I see myself prosperity as I serve you and do your will. I am born to be prosperous in Jesus name.
- Holy Spirit empower me to be prosperous
- Holy Spirit divinely prosper me.
- Spirit of all round prosperity fall on me in Jesus name.
- Prosperity that swallow poverty possess me in Jesus name
- I will live and not die in Jesus name.
